52 year old mother of two-who lives to swim in the sea (well the estuary) I am passionate about the benefits of cold (and in the summer warm) water swimming and spend my life talking about it.
I grew up on the south coast (where the sea is always in!) and most my days were spent on the beach or on the river- we had a very outdoorsy upbringing. Luckily, moving here meant the water was still accessible (albeit not all day!) and once I had my head around the tides- I could be in my happy place whenever I needed.
Four years ago I decided that I wouldn't stop swimming in October, but try to continue all year round. It was literally one of the best decisions I have made. During Covid it allowed me to exercise outdoors, and as rules relaxed we could swim in pairs and small groups. I really notice the positive impact on my mental health. and even a small 10 minute dip works wonders.
Over the past few years I have encouraged people to 'give it a go' so, I decided to turn my passion into a 'passion project' and I am excited to see where this new life direction takes me.
I want to share my swimming and dipping, no holds barred- the exhilaration, the cold, the warm, the wind, the rain and all elements in between. I swim off the tranquil Joscelyns beach in Chalkwell, Essex. and we have a tidal estuary- which means we only have water for a few hours a day- but every day is different and spectacular. You never regret a dip- trust me.
I offer introductory cold water dipping courses and most importantly, a platform for me to blog about my swims to my hearts content. So take a read, take a look and share with everyone please.
